Apple Picking at Wright’s Farm

Following our KOA stay at the New City KOA in Plattekill, NY we headed over to Wright’s Farm in Gardiner, NY. Wright’s Farm has been a family farm since 1903 and their first commercial apple orchard began in 1910. Wright’s Farm is a five generation family run farm on 453 acres and produces 100,000 bushels of apples annually. In addition to apples, they also grow cherries, peaches, plums, nectarines, berries, tomatoes, pumpkins, squash, and more. They have roadside farm market that is open year round and carries a huge selection of homemade baked goods, including pies, cookies, fruit breads, and their famous apple cider donuts. There is something for everyone. There is even a brewery on site as well and they play live music on the weekends.

Wright’s Farm also happens to be a Harvest Hosts camping ground and they provide a beautiful area on their farm for you to park your RV and enjoy the amazing views.

The day began with packing up from our KOA and driving over to Wright’s Farm. We called ahead to double check the procedure for coming to their farm with our RV and spoke with a lovely woman who explained all the details for visiting the farm and where to park. Being that we were there for apple picking and on a Monday, there were no crowds, so prior to entering the farm we stopped and parked in a overflow lot next to the brewery. JP ran into the store to pay for the apple picking bag and let them know we were here with our RV. We decided to splurge for the large bag to get as many apples as we could and figured that we would share some with family.

Entering the farm via the dirt road you begin to see the landscape of the orchard and we were met with the most beautiful sky and view. We had great weather with the temp being in the 70’s with a little breeze that kept us cool. The clouds were something else this day and did not disappoint.

Once we had our RV parked we began our preparations for our first family apple picking. Jordana has been apple picking before, but this adventure was a first for JP and the kids. We were all excited!

The kiddos were excited to begin apple picking.

Along with apple picking there are old tractors to sit on, a wooden train for the kids to play on and looks like they do wagon rides, but we didn’t see any happening…probably because it was a Monday.

Nice wooden train for the kids to play on…and JP.

Odin loved sitting on the old tractors.

We had such a great time picking apples. Our favorite apples are the honey crisp and we received a great tip from one of the farmers on where to find the best ones. And we did!! We filled our bag with apples.

Our apple haul and they tasted great!

After our apple haul was done we spent time walking around the farm and just taking in the sites. We found a really cool stone henge, aptly named, “Mini Stone Henge,” and attempted a family photo.

Odin wasn’t having any part of the family photo.

We had a blast at Wright’s Farm and it was a great family adventure. The place is enormous and what a great representation of the beauty of New York. We took with us so many apples and we are still working on them. Jordana even made us an apple crisp the other night that was to die for. We are hoping to make it back up there one day and stay longer. Wright’s Farm is a participating Harvest Hosts Farm so with your membership you can boondock for free.
